The Ritz is an invitation to the imagination, an open book whose famous guests have written so many pages and inspired a thousand and one anecdotes. It’s also like a magical film set. A first encounter begins with a long panning shot. We take in the lobby with its sumptuous carpets and rich royal blue; the majestic grand staircase; the superb sense of height, the exquisite fabrics and bouquets. Time has trod gently here, leaving an abiding sense of wonder. The grand hotel reveals its secrets little by little, at the turn of every door, its décor a universe in itself. 

The enchantment of the Ritz

The Ritz Paris is many things at once. To come here is to awaken your celebratory spirit, enjoy the eternal pleasures of taste and beauty, and the special joy of rediscovering oneself. The more time you spend, the more worlds are revealed, each with its particular atmosphere: the "private club" spirit of the Bar Hemingway, the Parisian ambience of the Bar Vendôme brasserie, the serenity of the Grand Jardin, the infinite voluptuousness of the Spa and its painted sky. Sleeping at the Ritz is an unforgettable interlude. Each 142 room has its own color, style and feel. Some pay homage to those celebrated guests who have helped make 15 Place Vendôme a place of legend.

A Parisian address with many facets

Born in the Belle Époque, the Ritz Paris owes everything to its founder César Ritz. Thanks to him, the prestige hotel business became an art form in its own right. To build his dream, Europe's most renowned hotelier chose a private mansion on Place Vendôme, an area already synonymous with the essence of Parisian chic. In his new-style establishment, César Ritz was determined to offer the ultimate in elegance and modern comfort. This devotee of world exhibitions was astonishingly inventive. On the hotel's inauguration in 1898, the Ritz Paris was the first hotel in the world to boast electricity on every floor, along with rooms with private bathrooms. Quite a feat at the time!

César Ritz, a gentleman of vision

With his wife Marie-Louise, the master of the house treated the hotel as if a huge private home. Throughout, the famous "Ritz style" blends inspirations, eras and the finest French traditions in a subtle eclecticism. Each room and suite has its own harmony. With an eye for the smallest detail, the couple also devoted infinite attention to the comfort of their guests, creating a refined form of luxury years ahead of its time. Then as now, service is both attentive and discreet, so guests genuinely feel at home.

The art of entertaining

As soon as it opened, the Ritz became the most fashionable place in Paris. This Parisian palace majored on discretion where required, but equally acted as the place to see and be seen. People came to the Ritz for its famous dinners, perhaps reserving a private salon with a few musicians. For weddings and anniversaries, tables could be set right in the lobby. Women could arrive unaccompanied to enjoy a London-style five o'clock tea. In the 1920s, the Ritz opened its first bar, where the art of conversation took pride of place. Dancing was the order of the day, both afternoon and evening and the word “ritzy” even entered the social vocabulary, describing the ultimate in elegance.

The glitzy years

The Ritz Paris has always been frequented by writers, artists and creators. Among them were such brilliant, spirited talents as Sarah Bernhardt, Jean Cocteau, Elsa Schiaparelli, Marguerite Yourcenar, and Gianni Versace. The hotel was also a paradise for writers on the road to fame, from Marcel Proust and Ernest Hemingway to Marguerite Duras. It was a discreet refuge for Maria Callas, and home for over twenty years to Coco Chanel. Its walls have inspired so many romances - take Ingrid Bergman and Robert Capa - and any number of films, from An American in Paris to Audrey Hepburn’s Love in the Afternoon. Our suites and salons have played their part too, staging unforgettable Haute Couture shows.

The meeting place for the creative arts

Throughout its history, the hotel has never ceased to set the hearts of Parisians beating. Relishing its role as social diary, the seductive Ritz has experienced it all; free-flowing Champagne, joy and celebration. The grand receptions and costume balls; the weddings of Hollywood's leading couples; the effervescence of the Roaring Twenties, when people danced the Charleston to the sound of jazz orchestras; extravagant soirées worthy of The Great Gatsby, later revived in print under the adoring pen of F. Scott Fitzgerald.

A Michelin Star for the gourmet restaurant at the Ritz Paris

Just a few months after opening, the Espadon restaurant has been awarded its first Star by the prestigious MICHELIN Guide. This distinction rewards the culinary experience of our table, the excellence and great finesse of our cuisine, and the talent of our teams. It's a wonderful accolade for the Ritz Paris and Chef Eugénie Béziat, supported behind the scenes by a talented team who share in her boldness, her passion and her perpetual quest for culinary excellence.

Eugénie Béziat is a passionate, assertive personality who puts ultimate faith in her instincts. Filled with the tastes and aromas of far-off worlds, she prides herself on French gastronomic cuisine imbued with nostalgia and distant memories. Accordingly, this talented artiste likes to shake things up with unexpected and delicate combinations. At the heart of her cuisine we discover colorful dishes, aromatic threads, and condiments mixed with spices and essences - all in her quest for the perfect balance between the sweet and the sour, the bitter and the spicy.

This is a great honor for us all, I'm very proud of the teams who work alongside me every day, and I'd like to dedicate this Star to them.

This spotlight on our culinary expertise is above all the fruit of the combined talent of our teams, and their shared commitment to a daily reinvention of the art of gastronomy. Among those working day in, day out in the kitchen and the dining room, special mentions go to Chef Eugénie Béziat and her loyal brigade of ten cooks; Camille Bouabdallah, manager of the Espadon restaurant, who masterfully orchestrates the service in the dining room; François Perret, Pastry Chef, and his astonishingly delicate creations; and Florian Guilloteau, Head Sommelier, for his original approach to food and wine pairing.

The taste of communal effort

In a warm, welcoming setting, Chef of the Espadon restaurant offers her guests an experience at once intimate and vibrant. With its large bay windows, the open kitchen reveals the silent ballet of a brigade of ten cooks, whose talents are expressed as if on a stage. In another feast for the eyes, the décor immerses diners in Eugénie Béziat's world, reflecting her passion for plants. Examples include the crystal ceiling lamp evoking the pages of a culinary herbarium - a subtle nod to her aromatic cuisine.

A dining room of unusual intimacy

Since its opening, the Espadon restaurant has been unanimously acclaimed by connoisseurs around the world, Chef Eugénie Béziat so brilliantly embodies the dynamism of the French culinary scene. Upon being awarded a Michelin Star, the Ritz Paris's restaurant adds a new distinction to its list of honours, which already includes the "New Arrival of the Year" award from LA LISTE, as well as three Ecotable 'macaroons'. This latest award highlights the Espadon restaurant's eco-responsible approach and its many initiatives, such as the creation of a sustainable vegetable garden using local produce, a menu that respects the rhythm of the seasons, and sustainable waste management.

When the chocolatier’s art meets literature… This Easter, the Ritz Paris celebrates Marcel Proust, one of our earliest loyalists, with a creation made to be both read and eaten; a chocolate book. This work of art, dreamed up by Pastry Chef François Perret, allows us to savor the picturesque lines of the text "On the Threshold of Spring", as well as conjuring happy memories of childhood.

“At the Ritz, nobody hurries you along", said Marcel Proust. Such was the bond between the hotel and the literary icon that both a luxury suite and our tea Salon now bear his name. Invited to the inauguration in 1898, the young novelist soon made the Ritz Paris his second home, a place for dining and receiving guests. Here he rubbed shoulders with the smart set of Paris, entertained artist friends and even celebrated his Goncourt Prize. Above all, the hotel became his greatest source of inspiration. In a small private room where he came to dine at all hours of the night, Proust gathered confidences about the guests from the waiters and a butler he’d befriended. Another favorite place was a corner adjoining the lobby, from which he observed the society of his time and discreetly captured conversations.

When the name Proust comes up, we naturally think of his life's work "In Search of Lost Time". In March 1913, a few months before the publication of the first volume, Marcel Proust penned a series of columns in Le Figaro entitled "Easter Holidays", from which "On the Threshold of Spring" is taken. Over the pages, the author’s key themes are already emerging: the sweet moments of childhood, wonder at the beauty of the world, a vivid memory triggered by a sensation;  a color, a smell, a taste. The most famous is the madeleine dipped into a cup of tea, allowing the instant rediscovery of a time he’d thought lost forever.

Easter, when we rediscover our childhood

Throughout "On the Threshold of Spring", the writer celebrates the arrival of warmer days. In particular he praises hawthorns, the much-loved flowers that tell of his "first love - a flower". A country walk brought back the joy of first discovering them. Their almond fragrance, their white petals and radiant veins, the festive finery of the thorns. So many visual and olfactory impressions, all bringing back forgotten emotions from his own soul as a child. As if by magic...

As befits a visionary luxury hotel with a commitment to sustainability, daily life at the Ritz Paris rests on three core pillars: preserving the environment, safeguarding our heritage and engaging with society. We are convinced that it is possible to operate as a sustainable company with a role in securing the future of our planet.

The Ritz Paris is the first hotel in France to be certified by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council. Recognized by the UN and the World Tourism Organization, the GSTC is a pioneering non-profit organization that sets the benchmarks for sustainable development in the global tourism sector. These guidelines guarantee that an establishment meets the highest achievable social and environmental standards. Director of Sustainable Development at the Ritz Paris, Audrey Peguret, says; "This approach has enabled us to structure, mobilize and unite all our teams with the aim of pursuing our commitments and enriching our initiatives on a daily basis." 

In 2024, just five months after opening, Restaurant Espadon was awarded three Ecotable macaroons, the highest level of the French sustainable restaurant certification. This award testifies to our collective commitment to eco-responsibility and sustainability.

At this time of climate emergency, our vision of luxury goes hand in hand with a genuine ecological conscience. Sharing our planet 
Following an ecological audit, we have installed 14 bird-nesting boxes in our Grand Jardin. We use integrated, biological pest management to maintain our gardens and terraces. Vegetables, herbs and edible flowers from our Vegetable and Aromatic Gardens are grown without pesticides. 

Preserving the environment

Reducing our energy needs
Our lighting is 100% LED. We recover 200 m3 of rainwater per year, and have introduced an annual plan to reduce energy consumption. 


Limiting the impact of our waste
We have set up a system for sorting, recycling and reducing waste, which our teams are trained to implement. Linen at the end of its cycle is reused for cleaning, and food waste is weighed daily to raise awareness among our teams.


Prioritizing sustainable mobility
Our customers have access to electric bicycles and hybrid courtesy cars.


Responsible purchasing
In our restaurants, menus are prepared using seasonal, local, organic and certified products.


Partners who share our values
We invite all our business partners to sign our Supplier Relations and Responsible Purchasing Charter. We include ESG criteria in our invitations to tender and specifications.


Reasonable use of natural resources and preservation of ecosystems
We encourage our customers to reduce the daily change of bed linen in their rooms.

As a historic proponent of the French 'art de vivre', we are passionate about keeping our cultural heritage alive over time. Our aim is to raise awareness of this exceptional legacy not only among our employees and customers, but also throughout Paris.

The quintessence of Parisian elegance, the hotel celebrated the summer season in an exceptionally chic and bucolic ambiance. 

Monday June 3rd, 2024, at nightfall, the sumptuous Grand Jardin welcomed its precious guests for an exceptional cocktail reception followed by an intimate concert. An experience through the two emblems of French excellence: gastronomy and music.

The evening began with an exceptional champagne cocktail accompanied by exclusive creations by two talented chefs, Jérôme Legras and François Perret. An array of delicate savory and sweet dishes delighted the most refined palates.

From 09:00 pm, the concert by Renaud Capuçon, one of the greatest violinists of his generation, enchanted the magical surroundings of the hotel gardens. The virtuoso played works from the classical repertoire as well as contemporary film scores alongside pianist Guillaume Bellom. A veritable ode to happiness and poetry, played in the open air.
